Very cool performance by German group Pluramon (sorta reminds of Pokemon). Dense electronica with great drumming. All at Mojo, in the company of a group of friends. Mojico says, "what could be better?"
Catching up on my movies: I went out to see a few interesting flicks this past week. Four films ranging from pretty good to obscenely bad.
Matchstick Men was very descent, as was the Italian Job. Cage does a good job with the nervous ticks (no comments please), and Norton is becoming an expert at playing the nerd-villain.
Then there was Basic. You'd think a bunch of good actors (and I don't mean Harry Connick) could distract us from the horrible plot for an hour and a half.
And I had the pleasure of watching one of the worst films ever this week. The Order is just plain depressing, and we should sue 20th Century for our money back.
I wish I could have attended this year's AES show in New York. There are tons of interesting new gadgets out that I would love to have messed with.
>> How about a U47 made by... Telefunken? Yep, they're making some really cool looking mics, including an ela-m251.
>> And how about this for a 47 clone? Now Wunderaudio just needs a decent logo...
>> Talking about U47, good ol' Lawson from Nashville is releasing an all-new mic called the AIR. It's a single pattern - hypercardiod - unit intended for vocal use, which sounds interesting.
>> Neumann is out with a new inexpensive mic, the multipattern TLM127. It offers two patterns right on the mic, or five via an optional remote.
>> I love Blue mics. But it seems they've teamed up with Digidesign to make a cheapo single pattern condenser. Evil.
>> Focusrite is showing off they're new high-tech Liquid Channel preamp. It uses impulse response technology to emulate tons of classic preamps. I just wish they'd stick to their higher quality analog designs instead of jumping into the "do-it-all" midiman-mentality. But hey, this thing may actually sound good...
>> You can get four of SSL's 9000 series preamps and compression for $4k and change, which isn't that bad at all. Other 9000 outboard is available as well.
>> And, last but certainly not least, is Mackie's new digital console, the dXb. 72 inputs at 96kHz, or half that at 192kHz. Firewire interfacing, a built in UAD and Penny+Giles moving faders, plus alot more. Gimme gimme.
Raul was commemorating one year of Estudio Mutante yesterday, and the evening party was way cool. Tons of good friends were there and the quasi-indian treats were super. In fact, I think I had some 5 glasses of lassi.
The t-shirt everyone got on the way out was extra-special, though. Green, simple, but... it has a tail! Mutants have tails... get it? The tail was actually just another sleeve, but it looks like a tail to me.
On another note, my phone had been dead today for almost 48 hours. The phone company had their local contractors come over and fix it. Anyway... the technician was using a Sharpie! I had to analyze it up close to believe me eyes. He didn't even know it had come from abroad. "A customer gave it to me," he says. Shocking.
(infogeek: for those who don't know what a sharpie is... it's a pen.)
